" Lymphedema is a buildup of lymphatic liquid in the interstitial tissue that causes swelling, usually in the arm( s) and/or leg( s), and periodically in various other parts of the body. Lymphedema can create when lymphatic vessels are missing out on or damaged (main), or when lymph vessels are damaged or lymph nodes eliminated (second). There is a lot of information on lymphedema. It is either main or secondary. Additional lymphedema would be caused from something such as a cancer surgical procedure. Mine is second since my lymph nodes were eliminated from my upper thigh on one leg throughout my cancer surgery. If the lymphedema is not regulated it can wind up being elephantitis. Yes, it is a genuine clinical condition and it is extremely significant. There are lymphedema support groups throughout the UNITED STATES. The National Lymphedema Network has plenty of information.
